BIBLE NOTES PART 7: FAITH IS FOR APPROPRIATING

Faith
John 2:22 Faith is believing the scriptures, the Words of Jesus
23: There is a measure of faith in those who believe after they see a miracle or see some fulfillment, but Jesus said blessed are your eyes for they see and your ears for they hear. Blessed are they that have not seen and believed
John 3:2 faith is knowing God is Heb 11:3
4:24 The woman had faith, she beleived that the Messiah was coming. She had faith that the Christ would tell all things
4:40 The people believed without seeing a miracle. They had faith in the words of the woman that she heard from Jesus and her testimony
41. Many believed and had faith only in the Words of Jesus just by hearing His words.
45.Galilleans believed because of what they saw Jesus do
50. Faith is believing the Words Jesus speaks to your heart. Believing it is done when He says it is.
5:9 Jesus told the man to take up his bed and walk. When he obeyed Jesus he was healed.
6.2 Do you follow Jesus only because you see signs and wonders?Healings and miracles?
14 Some only can believe after they see a miracle or they are fed. It is a selfish faith, a carnal type of faith that will believe only after a miracle.
19 Faith is the opposite of fear. If you are afraid you cannot have faith.
29. Having faith is believing on Jesus. Having faith in Jesus is believing His Words. He is the Word. Believing His Word is having the faith to act upon it, put it into action. Mix faith with the Word. You cannot have one without the other. This is the work of God. This is working for God. Believing in the words of Jesus is working for God, because then you are living the word. This is how you activate the Word of God to work for you, if you work for it first by your faith in it.
68 Having faith is knowing that there is no other place to go to but Jesus. There is no other truth but the Word of God. There is no other way but Jesus. There is no other life but the faith life.
7:31 People were hinging their faith on the miracles that Jesus did. They were not believing the words themselves, but the signs. They would rather have the signs than the Word. Because they were carnal the signs and wonders were more important to them than what Jesus was teaching.
8:30 Many believed on Jesus as even as He was speaking. They didnt even wait for Him to stop.
9:6,7 The blind man obeyed Jesus' conditions to get healed. It does not say he was a righteous man or a saint. It just says he went and did what Jesus told him to do. If he didn't he would not have been healed.
9:30-33 The man that was born blind declares his faith in Jesus openly, not ashamed, but thankful for all Jesus did for Him. His testimony glorifies God, and that is what upsets the religious leaders. This formerly blind man that the religious leaders claim was born in his sins and that is why he was blind is going to enter the Kingdom of God before they do.
35-39, The man who was born blind believes in Jesus as the Messiah and worships Him openly showing his faith. He did not doubt for a minute. He did not waver or stagger at the promise of God but was strong in faith giving glory to God.
10:37,38 We don't have to believe in Jesus if He did not do the works of God. Jesus is not trying to get people to just believe in Him without showing them the power of God. That would not make sense. They would just believe in another teacher like Buddha or Confucius who had no works of God to back them up. Where are their works? Did they heal the sick? Did they raise the dead? Did they multiply food for multitudes?Did they cast out devils? What did they promise man? Jesus was the only one who did these things and also rose from the dead being resurrected by God the Father.
11:22 Mary's faith is the kind of faith that gets miracles, healing, and can raise the dead.
11:24 Martha's faith is the kind of faith that will kill people. You cannot expect miracles or healing with this kind of weak faith.
11:27. Martha had faith in Jesus as the Son of God and Savior, but did not have faith that He could raise Lazarus from the dead. This is typical Christian faith. It is mental faith. It is passive faith. The kind of faith that accepts fate as God's will. It is the "Oh well, I guess it is just God's will not to get healed" type of weak faith.
11:32 Well, God bless Mary, even though she had the faith Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead se seems to still think it would have been better that Lazarus did not die. The truth is that Jesus even said that it was good that he died that His disciples might believe, because he was getting ready to raise Lazarus from the dead. Here is Mary blaming Jesus for the death of Lazarus. She had faith alright but she still could not see it yet so her faith was shakey and unstable.
39,40: When Jesus said to take away the stone Martha expresses her lack of faith in Jesus and exposes her carnal mind. Martha is going by what her senses tell her not what the Word of God has just said.
41,42 Jesus prays to the Father but you notice something funny, wait a minute! Doesn't Jesus ask the Father to raise Lazarus from the dead? No He doesn't. Instead He thanks the Father for hearing Him and for doing it already. He thanks and raises the Father for already raising Lazarus from the dead. He prays this prayer out loud so that everyone around Him can hear it. Then in the next couple of verses He commands Lazarus to come forth out of the tomb. Jesus spoke to Lazarus after He spoke to the Father in thanks and praise.

Faith For Deliverance From Fear

In John Chapter 14 Jesus shares with us not to be afraid, not to have fear. "Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God , believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go ad prepare a place for you I will go again and receive you unto Myself also, that where I am there ye may be also."
What a comforting promise! How can anyone who believes in Jesus have any fear after that wonderful promise? What do we have to worry about? Jesus has promised us a mansion in the Father's house. Now that is a pretty big house! We are going to live in mansions inside of God's own house! Not down the block or in the next town. Right in the same house as God lives with Him forever! Do you believe that? If you do then you have faith in this promise Jesus said right here. If you have faith in this promise you won't fear, you won't be shaken, you will not doubt, you won't be afraid.

If you have depression, phobias, worries, nightmares, any kind of mental discrepancy or disorder whatsoever that is rooted in fear, the promises of Jesus in the Gospels and the Book of Revelations chapters 21 and 22 will put to rest all of those fears. Perfect love casts out fear. The scripture says repeatedly not to fear. Fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. There is a way to get rid of your fear once and for all. Believing the Words of Jesus will send your fears away. Filling up and renewing your mind with the promises of God and His love will give you perfect peace. As we move on in the book of John, this study on faith will renew you and change your life if you give yourself whole-heartedly to it.
Fear is the opposite of faith. Fear brings doubt which destroys faith. This chapter in John 14 will put to rest any fears you may have and change your heart and give you peace that passes the understanding of your own mind.

Thomas asks Jesus in Verse 5 How can we know the way? Thomas had a problem with doubt because he had fear. Jesus alleviates his fear by telling him,"I am the way the truth and the life.No man cometh unto the Father but by Me" Isn't that a comforting thought? I mean if you believe in Jesus and love Jesus and you hear Him say this ,man, I tell you that is awesome! If you are a born again believer you got it made! If you are not yet born again then you have a chance to let Jesus into your life and get the benefits of being a child of God. What job can offer you not only eternal life in heaven, but to live forever with God in His own house? In your own private mansion? Well I don't know how private it will be if you are in heaven as there are going to be a lot of your friends and relatives there you will want to meet and have over to your place and they will want to have you over to their place and it's going to be a busy time.
How could we doubt? How could we fear? Easy! By just believing the lies of the devil when he arrives to try to deceive you and pull you down into the pit of self pity, doubt, fear, deception, away from the truth in the Words of Jesus. I tell you, when you get away from the Word of God you can get all kinds of things popping into your head. All kinds of imaginations and thoughts, fears and things that are not healthy.

In verse 12 Jesus makes another promise. This time it is for us to be able to do the same works that He did. He even says that we will do greater works than He did because He is going to go to the Father and send the Holy Spirit to dwell in us. One problem, though. A lot of Christians are trying to do the "greater works" when they haven't even done the FIRST works that Jesus said to do. They haven't done the witnessing and winning, healing, miracles and other things Jesus did. Most important of all they haven't shown the love of Jesus to others who need it. So how can we do greater works than Jesus when we haven't even done the things He told us to do, and the works He Himself did when He was on Earth?

In the next verse Jesus says that what we ask in His name He will do! Here is where we have to use faith and exercise faith and believe what He said. There is a balance. This is talking about whatever is in His will. So you have to know what the will of the Lord is. You have to be wise and understand what the will of the Lord is as Paul says. Then you can pray in faith and ask what you will and it will be done, if you ask in Jesus name.
In MAtthew He says whatsoever you ask, believing, and not doubting in your heart. Having a heart of unbelief is evil. It is throwing down God's Word. Why can't we just be like little children and accept what Jesus said by faith? Life would be a lot easier ,now wouldn't it?

In John 15:7 and 16 Jesus makes more promises that we will get what we ask for. If you have the faith for something that is according to God's Word and you know it is His will, by what His Word says, like healing, He will do it! Matthew 7:7 says "Ask and ye SHALL receive" We don't receive because we don't believe. We think God is angry at us or upset at us for our sins forgetting that Jesus nailed all of our sins on the cross.
God is not angry at us anymore. How can we have peace with God wondering if He is angry at us? Thinking we are not healed because God is trying to teach us some lesson or purge us or some ridiculous excuse to cover up our unbelief!
God's healing in our life or any other blessing is not dependent upon our performance. God's heart towards you is not dependent upon your obedience or attitude towards Him and what you do to earn His blessings. You cannot earn His blessings no matter what you do. It is all by grace and His unconditional love. That is UNCONDITIONAL love. Of course your heart towards God is going to have a lot to do with your own happiness and closeness to God and attitude towards him. We will all reap what we sow, but it will not be because God is angry at us. The war is over.
There is only one way to please God. Hebrews 11:6 says "For without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God" The only thing that pleases God is FAITH. Not good works, or whatever wonderful things you can think up to do. You cannot be good enough to please God. Only Faith pleases God.
Why? Because faith is believing God's Word even when you don't see it with your senses . Even when your eyes do not see it, you still believe it comes to pass because God has promised it! That is faith!
In John 16 He goes on to say "Ask in My name" a few more times. How can we doubt the Lord's powerful invitations to receive from Him the desires of our hearts? What can it be that is stopping us?
In verse 24 He says ; "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name, ask, and ye shall receive that your joy may be full"
Why does He want us to ask? Because He just likes to se us humble and beg for what we want? He just wants us to confess our need for Him? No, that is not what Jesus is saying here. These other reasons why we ask may have their time and place but the prime purpose Jesus wants us to ask is so that our JOY may be FULL.
It is not so He can exercise control over us. Jesus wants us to be happy and He knows the only way we are going to be full of His joy is if we ask Him in faith, nothing wavering, not doubting in our hearts, the way a child asks his parents for what he needs.
Now this may not be in accordance with popular theology, but God is in love with us, and desires to give us the desires of our hearts. He is not angry with us and constantly chiding us and rebuking us. There are times when we do need correction so the scripture says not to despise the correction of the Lord nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him. Let's face it. We do sometimes get off the track and need the Lord's gentle persuasion of the Holy Spirit to bring us back.
I don't believe that God is hovering over us with a big stick ready to clobber us every time we make a mistake. In fact, through Jesus we have direct access to God the Father now, through His name!
